Winter Storm Damage Inspection
editIt’s been a long winter. With heavy rains and snow days, our homes have taken quite the beating. Now is the time to start inspecting for damage and make any necessary repairs.
Gutters and Downspouts: Do a visual walk around of your house. Are there any spots where the gutters have pulled away from the house, are leaking or rusted, or are showing signs of cracking? Are the gutters draining properly or have they filled with debris?
Foundation: If you have a basement, start inside of the house and look for cracking, mold or moisture. Do you notice cracks, uneven floors, or have trouble closing windows? If you suspect a foundational problem, call a professional.
Roof: Winter storms can wreak havoc on your roof. Note any shingles that are missing, displaced or without granules. Check the flashings, eaves and soffits thoroughly. If you have any accumulated debris, moss or algae growth, perform a thorough cleaning.
Siding: Pressure wash siding to keep mold from growing. Look for peeling paint, detached or dented siding, or deteriorating caulking that may need attention.
Decks and Porches: Look for loose or missing nails, deterioration or rotting wood, and color change. Wood decks need to be treated every 4-6 years, depending on the structure’s exposure to the elements.
Depending on the extent of the damage, you may be able to work with your insurance company to repair damages to your home. The experts at HOMEMASTERS can help you through the process. Call (888) 400-1815 to schedule a free estimate.
